Smell of blooms can be a nuisance, too

Re: “City council needs to clear the air on hazardous firepits,” Naomi Lakritz, Opinion, May 30.

Naomi Lakritz stated in her column that we need to ban firepits, justifying it through other examples of bans, but she gave lilacs a free pass.

Hospitals have banned flowers due to the allergies they can cause. Perhaps she should have advocated for banning all flowering plants as well.

I have several friends who suffer dearly from pollen, and one who can become quite ill. Those lilacs shouldn’t get a free pass. (Where do we stop?)
