WHAT JOHN GILCHRIST ORDERS AT: Black Apron Bistro

-

Sometimes you just feel like a burger. Not a skimpy drive-thru burger or an overworked haute cuisine burger; just a thick and juicy, five-napkin burger packed with flavour. When that feeling hits, I head to Black Apron Bistro in Phillips Park, east of Chinook Centre. There, Stephen Grant and Juan Carlos run a tight ship that serves up big breakfasts such as hot quinoa with vegetables and eggs and even bigger lunch sandwiches, including three burgers. My favourite is the one with housemade boursin cheese and confit garlic, thick, heavy and slippery. I wear short sleeves and hunker down with the regulars. And keep it healthy with a mixed green salad on the side. For $13 it’s a pretty good deal, too.
