Friday and Saturday: The Firebird & Cantus Arcticus

The Calgary Philharmon­ic Orchestra goes to the birds: Cantus Arcticus, a.k.a. Concerto for Birds & Orchestra, and its recorded Arctic Circle birdsong are paired with Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite (1919 version). Thursday: Sheila Jordan, with Sheri-D Wilson

The Detroit jazz singer, who celebrates her 90th birthday in November, was often introduced by Charlie Parker (whose pianist, Duke Jordan, she was married to for 10 years) as “the singer with the million dollar ears.” New poet laureate Sheri-D Wilson warms up the crowd.
