Blame B.C. for lack of housing funding

-

Re: “Housing funding must be priority,” Letter, June 14. Larry Kazdan complains about the Trudeau government investment of $4.5 billion in the Trans Mountain pipeline and suggests that similar federal funding should be provided to reduce homelessness in Vancouver.

Oh, the irony. Trudeau only invested in Trans Mountain because the stalling tactics of B.C. politicians and protesters rendered the project too risky for private investors.

Absent B.C.’s vexatious court challenges and illegal protests, that $4.5 billion of tax dollars would have been available to help fund social programs.

And each year that pipeline is delayed by B.C. costs Canada an estimated $15 billion of export revenue which, through increased taxes and transfer payments, would help fund social programs across the country.

Want more tax dollars for your homeless in Vancouver? Stop obstructing the pipeline. Steven Emond, Calgary
