Kerr takes lead into final round at Glencoe

- WES GILBERTSON

Scott Kerr’s scorecard was crammed with circles.

On the strength of six birdies, the 21-year-old from Vancouver sizzled into the lead at the 2018 Glencoe Invitational.

Kerr posted the lowest score during Friday’s middle round of the three-day amateur showdown, signing for a 4-under 68. Thanks to a two-day tab of even-par 144, he’ll tee off Saturday with a onestroke lead.

Kerr, who competes for the Simon Fraser University Clan, will be shooting to add his name to a list of tournament champions that’s headlined by current PGA Tour regulars Graham DeLaet and Mackenzie Hughes and rising star Jared du Toit.

After opening with a 78, Kerr mixed six birdies and two bogeys in his second lap of the challenging Forest Course at Glencoe Golf & Country Club. He was one of only seven golfers to finish in red figures on a sometimes stormy day.

Victoria’s Jeevan Sihota is one shot off the pace, while Banff ’s Kai Iguchi — the 17-year-old who recently cruised to victory at the Future Links Western Championship at Highwood — is two strokes back.

Saturday ’s final-round tee times run from 8-10:40 a.m.
