STATSCAN GATHERS DIGITAL DATA

-

Statistics Canada is launching a new survey to gather information about the digital economy. The federal agency says it wants to fill gaps in the information available about Canadian participation in several types of activities. The survey will ask about the use and purchase of various digital products such as music and video streaming services. It will also ask questions about digital payment options, such as reward points, gift cards and cryptocurrencies. It’s also examining ways that people earn money from digital platforms or apps, including ride sharing, such as Uber, or accommodation services like Airbnb. Statistics Canada begins conducting the survey Friday and will continue for about four weeks to July 12. The agency says respondent information will be kept strictly confidential.
