FAMILIAR STYLE WITH A TWIST

Brookfield unveils split-level designs

- CLAIRE YOUNG

Show home parades are beginning to see a new twist on a familiar style — the split-level home. With new designs, these family-friendly homes provide comfortable living with easy transitions between zones.

Brookfield Residential is showcasing two of its split-level designs in Cranston’s Riverstone on zerolot line property. The eye-catching Hudson II anchors the recently launched parade of four homes, by Brookfield and Trico Homes, on a corner lot. It’s a 2,157-square-foot home with three bedrooms upstairs and one in the finished basement, presented with a French exterior.

These two-car front attached homes have a front entrance to one side of the garage. The generous yet private front foyer provides space to greet guests, but keeps cold currents of air from gusting into the main living space. Likewise, entering from the garage, the mud room has a large staging area, along with a half-bathroom and a choice of stairs going up to the main living area or down the rec room.

The kitchen is a friendly space, with an island facing the dining area and open to the great room next to it.

In the great room, a two-way fireplace — an option in this floor plan — shares its warmth inside the great room along with outside on the deck.

A point to note about this main level is the generous feel of natural light. Besides the windows along the back of the great room, also helping out are high windows along one outside side wall and the light that comes indirectly down the wide stairs from the bonus room.

The bonus room, with its peaked ceiling, arched transom window and sliding glass doors onto a covered deck, is an attractive space for gathering with family or friends.

With this being a split-level home, there are two spaces flanking the stairs that would be useful for storage.

Upstairs, the laundry room is to the right, while two generous secondary bedrooms are to the left. They share the main bathroom, off the main hallway.

At the back of the home, the master bedroom has a walk-in closet separated from the master ensuite, which features a standalone soaker tub and a vanity with two sinks.

The lower level of the show home is finished, and demonstrates how much can fit in this area: a large rec room, a bedroom, an office and a full bathroom, along with a storage room and a mechanical room.
