Canadians Near Top At Wisconsin LPGA Event

A pair of Canadians sit in the top five after opening-round play at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Oneida, Wis. Brittany Marchand of Orangevill­e, Ont., fired an 8-under 64 to share third place with Meghan Kang of the United States, two shots behind leader Katherine Kirk (62) of Australia. In between them is South Korea’s Sei Young Kim, with a 63. Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont, was in a sevenway tie for fifth place after carding a 7-under 65. Coming in at even-par 72 were Maude-Aimee Leblanc of Sherbrooke, Que., and Alena Sharp of Hamilton.
