Joining the legends at Canyon Meadows
There will be 78 legends at the Shaw Charity Classic this year, including these first-timers:
Darren Clarke
The golfer from Northern Ireland turns 50 less than two weeks before his rookie start at the Classic.
Clarke has earned three PGA Tour victories and 18 international wins, most of them on the European Tour. He won the British Open in 2011, ahead of runners-up Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.
Clarke played on the international Ryder Cup team five times (four wins), and was team captain in2016.
He created the Darren Clarke Foundation to help young Irish golfers and is also involved in course architecture. Pinnacle Point, his first course, opened on the southern cape of South Africa in 2006.
Chris DiMarco
The American turns 50 just days before his rookie PGA Tour Champions start at the Classic.
A three-time PGA Tour winner, he was top 10 in the world between 2002 and 2006. During those seasons, he finished second in three majors, losing a playoff to Fiji’s Vijay Singh at the 2004 PGA Championship, and losing two others to Tiger Woods who beat him at the 2005 Masters and the 2006 Open Championship.
DiMarco competed in two Presidents
Cups and was named to two Ryder Cup teams.
Davis Love III
Love, 54, has won 21 PGA Tour events — including most recently in 2015. Born in Charlotte, N.C., he won the 1997 PGA Championship, and the 1992 and 2003 Players Championship. He captained the U.S. Ryder Cup teams in 2012 and 2016 and played on six Ryder Cup teams himself.
Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame last year, he has competed in 61 PGA Tour events since turning 50.
