Pictures tell tragic story of contrasts

-

Friday, as I often do, I sat at my kitchen island to read the Herald; nice to lay it flat to read.

Page A10, the last page of the first section, showed people in Calgary, mostly kids, having fun in the water to stay cool at Bowness Park. The pictures literally made me smile.

Then I looked at the next page — the first page of the NP section. It showed a child who’d been injured in an air strike in Yemen.

His look of absolute pain, fear, agony, despair and hopelessness made me want to weep.

These pictures were side by side in front of me. To say there was a stark contract doesn’t do it justice.

I realize life in Canada is no picnic for many people. But in case anyone doesn’t think we’re lucky to live in this country, take a look at these pictures.
