Blaze damages six Silverado homes

Huge flames and a pillar of smoke shot up from a garage in Silverado, damaging six homes in the southwest community. The Calgary fire department said emergency crews were called to a home in the 300 block of Silverado Plains Close on Tuesday. Firefighters en route to the scene could see a large plume of black smoke rising from the area. When crews arrived they found a detached garage backing onto an alley was engulfed in flames. The fire had already spread to two more garages on either side. Crews were able to quickly knock down the blaze but not before flames damaged the exterior of the garage owner’s home, both homes on either side of the fire and another three houses across the alley.
