Woman pinned beneath SUV dies

EDMONTON A 74-year-old woman in Edmonton is dead after police believe she was run over by the vehicle she was driving.

The accident involving a sportutility vehicle happened early Wednesday morning in a northeast neighbourhood.

Officers arriving at the scene found the lower half of the woman’s body trapped under her SUV.

She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators believe the woman was making a U-turn when she opened the door, put her foot on the ground to check behind and was pinned underneath as she reversed.

No one else was hurt and no other vehicles were involved.
