‘Violent offender’ back in custody after escape
EDMONTON Less than 24 hours after a brazen escape from the Edmonton Institution for Women, a prisoner was back in custody Thursday evening. Samantha Towedo, 34, climbed the fence of the prison at 111 Avenue and 178 Street around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, said police in a news release. Officers responded but could not locate her. Following a tip from the public, officers found Towedo at a commercial complex near 118 Street and 104 Avenue and arrested her on Thursday.
Towedo was taken into custody “without incident,” said a statement from police.
Towedo is a violent offender and considered dangerous, said the previous release.
