Canadian star Beckie scores in British debut

Canadian international forward Janine Beckie scored in her debut for the Manchester City women’s team Sunday in a 4-0 win over Leicester City in Continental Cup play. Beckie’s goal came in the 71st minute when she tapped in Nadia Nadim’s flick-on at Academy Stadium. Beckie joined the English club earlier this month in a transfer from New Jersey’s Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League. A dual citizen, the 24-year-old Beckie was born in Colorado to parents from Saskatchewan. She has 22 goals in 43 appearances for Canada.
