CRITICAL THINKING KEY TO OUR SURVIVAL

-

Re: “Heads in sand over climate change,” Letter, Aug. 27. Climate has always changed and always will. The question is, to what degree do you believe it is anthropogenically based, if at all?

Humans are inherently selfish and believe that we’re the means and the end of all that is and will be on this planet. We are not. Almost all living things have gone extinct on Earth.

Why are we so arrogant as to believe we are different?

And the naive belief that scientists are above interpreting and analyzing data in a biased manner is concerning. Many institutions of higher learning and research are financed by large multinational companies that want results which will better their position, politically and economically.

The idea that the more scientists who support one specific theory means that theory has more validity is more an attestation to social conformity as to critical scientific questioning.

We must all retain critical thinking skills, or else we are all just a bunch of followers. John Wilson, Calgary
