Anglot kicks off Masters with win

Cedric Anglot got the Masters started off on the right foot Wednesday.

The French rider and his horse, Talent Des Moitiers, won the first event of the marquee five-day tournament at Spruce Meadows.

Anglot won the 11-horse jump-off of the 1.50-metre Telus Cup, going doubleclea­r in the Internatio­nal Ring to capture the first victory of the Masters.

Anglot was one of six riders to steer a horse clear of faults in the jump-off.

And his time in the jumpoff was nearly two seconds faster than runner-up Conor Swail of Ireland aboard GK Coco Chanel. Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten aboard Arera C finished third in the Telus Cup competitio­n. The jump-off saw two entries ridden by American Beezie Madden, Breitling LS and Coach, and one, Viva, by Calgary ’s Kara Chad.

DAY 2 AT MASTERS

Day 2 of the Masters goes Thursday with two Internatio­nal Ring performanc­es, the 1.50m ATCO Founders Cup at 10 a.m. and the 1.60m Cana Cup at 1:30 p.m. Shuttle service is available from the Somerset/Bridlewood C-Train station before, during and after the performanc­es.
