CALBRIDGE LOTTERY HOME

Stunning views of lake and sky

- JOSH SKAPIN

The winner of the latest lottery home by Calbridge Homes won’t just enjoy direct access to Calgary’s largest freshwater lake, they’ll experience its beauty on multiple levels.

Measuring more than 5,500 square feet, this home with four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in the southeast Calgary community of Mahogany is the grand prize in the current Hospital Home Lottery.

It’s worth $2.6 million, making it the most valuable yet. The winner will also receive $100,000 in cash.

Other prizes include a luxury condo at Spring Creek in Canmore, vehicles, vacations and leisure items.

With the luxury home, Calbridge shines a light on its location, backing on to Mahogany Lake, with multiple outdoor living opportunities.

This includes spaces that connect to the home’s main, second and developed lower level — including a semi-covered outdoor dining area off the kitchen.

“The whole vision was, when we bring people into the foyer, and they look past the stairs and through the house, you get to see an indoor lifestyle and then an outdoor lifestyle — past that through to the water,” says Eelco Kleinleugenmors, who works in architectural planning and development for Calbridge.

“It was my vision to provide that indoor/outdoor living right away, and you can see water and sky,” he adds. “Around that, the remainder of the home was built.”

The master bedroom is another example of the home’s lake-focused approach.

A beverage station with an espresso machine, located just off the entrance to the bedroom is available for its occupants to make a cup of coffee and head to a balcony looking over the water.

“You could literally spend your entire Saturday there, if you really

wanted to,” says Kleinleugenmors.

“You can watch the action in the lake. Just enjoy some really nice time, either on your own, or with your person.”

The master bedroom’s walk-in closet and luxurious ensuite stand out, as well.

On the ensuite, which boasts a free-standing tub, raised ceiling and over-sized tile shower, Kleinleugenmors calls it “light, bright, yet it was traditional charm.”

“It feels warm, soft and inviting, yet it’s clean and linear, sleek and bright,” he adds. “It has just about every element of traditional that you could ask for, blended with the edge of contemporary, to bring it up to a current expression.”

Staying on the second level, a corner of the bonus room cantilevers over the great room.

“If you stand right in the corner, you essentially have an unobstructed view of the lake and it almost feels like you’re floating, like you’re on a ship and you’re looking out to the water,” Kleinleugenmors says. “That was the intent there. To create almost a destination.”

One of Kleinleugenmors’ favourite parts of the main level is the kitchen area.

“The matte black custom cabinetry with that stunning metal hood fan and then the wood beams ... it just adds such an element of that modern farmhouse,” he says.

“We have 11 foot nine (inch) ceilings, so putting the wood on the ceilings really brought it down and made it really comfortable despite all of the volume.”

In the developed lower level, Kleinleugenmors calls its bar, with a margarita machine and LED-strip lighting — which sits across from an expansive wine storage/display — a highlight, adding the aim was to make it feel “resort-like.”

“It’s a getaway from home, right inside of your own house,” he adds.

“And I think the lake obviously complements that.”

Rather than a more conventional placement, the bar is slightly skewed.

“That’s done in an effort to increase the exposure of the bar into the rest of that common space in the basement,” he adds. “So if you sit at that bar, you have an interaction with the person serving at the bar, but then you can let your eye wander across the media area.

“You have the perfect view of the TV if a game or movie is on, and then you can see out the folding doors, as well, right across that built-in lounge area, right through to the water. You have this one-spot-fits-all in the basement, where you can sit and enjoy every aspect, every component of what makes that space so special.”

The home, located at 238 Marine Dr. S.E., is open 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

Tickets are $100 each, or offered in a three-pack for $250, five-pack for $375, or eight-pack for $500.
