Gauvin ‘aces’ Par-4 using a driver for 274-yard hole
Dale Gauvin made magic with an albatross at Stewart Creek. Gauvin sized up No. 14, a Par-4 that measures 274 yards, and peeled the cover off his big-stick, hoping for an eagle look. Turns out, he wouldn’t even need his putter — his ball was at the bottom of the cup.
Also at Stewart Creek, Matt Burianni breezed through the third hole with one whack of a nine-iron from 143 yards, while Madison Marchuk mastered No. 8 with a seven-iron on the 182-yard challenge.
Just a couple of weeks after his triumph at the PGA of Alberta Championship, Riley Fleming continued his superb summer with an ace. Fleming, now an instructor at National Golf Academy, was oneand-done on No. 12 at Lynx Ridge thanks to an awesome eight-iron from 191 yards out.
Peggy Yeh wasn’t intimidated by the water on the fifth hole at Bearspaw. Yeh launched a six-hybrid over the trouble and was spot-on from 110 yards away.
Morgan Chimuk and Kyle Redmond both aced the second hole at Silver Springs. Chimuk picked a perfect line with a pitching wedge from the 99-yard blocks, while Redmond was flag-hunting from 150 yards away.
Ken Gaida had reason to hoot and holler on the eighth at Beaver Dam. Nine-iron was the right call for the 109-yard beauty.
Ibrahim Hussen was swinging a 50-degree wedge for a 73-yard memory-maker on the sixth of McCall Lake’s Par-3, while Todd Surowski scribbled a ‘1’ on his scorecard on No. 7 thanks to a pitching wedge that covered 101 yards.
Mark McCalder made short work of the third test on the Mountain Nine at Elbow Springs, finding the target with a six-iron from 148 yards out. Also at the 27-hole hangout, Terry Lidster used his eightiron for an ace on the fourth on the Elbow Nine.
Mike Knauff made the fifth hole at Hamptons, smoothing a seveniron from 161 yards away, while Scott Wallace had a 162-yard ace on No. 11 at the private hangout.
