FARMING OUT GAMES INCREASES FOOTPRINT

-

Calgary hosting the Olympics but holding events in Whistler and Edmonton is about as logical as me hosting a dinner party and asking guests to drive across town for appetizers and then to High River for dessert. Am I really hosting a successful dinner party?

What is the potential carbon footprint of the Olympics? Will a carbon tax be levied on event tickets? Has this been considered/studied? Is it worth holding an event that could further negatively affect the environment? Is the alleged economic boost worth it?

Long ago I stopped supporting the Olympics when it was evident that the ParaOlympics were not treated with the same respect and celebration — TV coverage drops to a minimum when the Para- Olympics starts.

I hope Calgarians vote no. Lisa Lintott, Calgary
