Flames pad roster with PTOs with veterans training in China
With the majority of the Calgary Flames beginning their training camp overseas in China, more bodies were needed.
That also means that, potentially, there are a few more dark horses than usual with 10 players in Calgary on professional tryout offers.
Netminder Jeff Glass, who was previously with the Chicago Blackhawks organization, headlines a group that also includes defencemen Philip Samuelsson, Viktor Svedberg, Ryan Sproul, Duncan Siemens, Justin Falk and forwards Logan Shaw, Scott Sabourin, Justin Auger and Gilbert Brule.
Kicking off with a pair of on-ice sessions on Friday, 42 players in total were split into two teams: Team Berezan and Team Macoun.
The practices continue through Saturday and Sunday, with the first pre-season game set for Monday at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Edmonton Oilers.
In total, there are eight friendlies scheduled on top of two exhibition games against the Bruins in China.
All on-ice sessions are open for viewing to the public.
The Flames open up the 2018-19 regular season against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Oct. 3.
Meanwhile, the Flames have also released goaltender from his amateur tryout Shane Farkas following rookie camp. He’ll report back to Portland of the Western Hockey League.
