The name of a state-of-the-art southeast recreation centre was revealed Friday as the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton. Brookfield Residential has invested $3.5 million in this YMCA, which was built by the City of Calgary and will provide opportunities for participation in a wide range of fitness, learning, leisure and recreation activities.
This is a “transformational gift to life in service of Calgarians, particularly in the southeast,” said Shannon Doram, president and CEO of YMCA Calgary.
In addition to the naming sponsorship, Brookfield is giving a nod to its 60th year of operations by subsidizing YMCA memberships for 60 children for one year.
“We believe if we can make a positive contribution to the well-being of community members, it will benefit future generations and in turn will benefit the communities we build,” said Trent Edwards, COO for Brookfield Residential Alberta.
The 330,000-square-foot facility, expected to open in January, will feature twin arenas, a theatre and arts studio, a licensed daycare, yoga studio and fitness centre, a 10-lane competition pool, both competitive and family-focused aquatics and three gymnasiums. In addition, the facility will house a full-scale Calgary Public Library.
On Saturday, Brookfield Residential is sponsoring a fall festival to celebrate the community of Seton and the new YMCA. A chance to win a one-year YMCA membership along with a show home scavenger hunt will be featured activities. Join the hunt at either 19470 - 37 Street S.E. or 22 Seton Manor S.E.
