CALGARY FALL HOME SHOW

‘It’s a place for ideas and solutions’

- ANDREA COX

With a string of beautifully curated approachable interactive exhibits, bucket loads of inspiration and the best-of-the-best in the design world presenting new ideas, the Calgary Fall Home Show is set to wow once again. It runs from Sept. 20 to 23 at the BMO Centre at Stampede Park.

“We wanted the show to have something for everyone. It’s allencompassing, a place where you can come for ideas and solutions whether you are in a condo or a single family home. If you own your home and want ideas for a major renovation or are renting and want design ideas — it’s all here,” says Teri Salazar, show manager for Marketplace Events, producers of the Calgary Fall Home Show.

Here you’ll be introduced to some exciting design concepts that are shifting decade-long trends, starting with local designer Amanda Hamilton’s curated four-room feature, Maximalism.

“It will be one of the first things that you see when you walk through the doors, and it will be a show stopper,” says Salazar.

Spinning contemporary minimalism on its head, maximalism is a throw back to the Victorian era. It’s all about adding more rather than less to a room and involves the thoughtful layering of artifacts, textures and styles, all drawn from personal experiences like travel, music, literature, art and fashion.

Hamilton will be taking it a step further with her presentation on the Urban Main Stage titled From Concept to Completion: Creating Life and Character in Your Home. She joins a hand-picked selection of celebrity designers, including headliner Tommy Smythe, HGTV Canada’s Tiffany Pratt and Marilyn Denis Show regular Amanda Forrest.

Known for her eclectic and bold style, Forrest will be delivering some design-savvy goods on fall trends, inspiring Calgarians to fall in love with their homes again.

“One of the main influencers in

design continues to be our connection with the earth and the outdoors,” says Forrest. She’ll be dishing out concrete advice on colour and light and the how-to’s of infusing a home with personal style.

In addition to the main stage presenters, visitors can also expect a variety of themed workshops and displays designed to up the design inspiration ante, including more than 300 trusted brands and local companies. Food trucks and familyfriendly hands-on workshops from building a terrarium bursting with green plants to designing a Pinterest-inspired DIY piece for the home round out the experience.
