SUMPTUOUS PENTHOUSE

Stunning views, loads of space

- CLAIRE YOUNG

Views in three directions, capturing vistas of the Rockies, the Bow River and downtown. Two levels of living space afford a soaring ceiling in the great room. A rooftop deck almost as large as the home itself, featuring a hot tub, dining area, lounge area and garden.

Avenue West End is bringing this unique two-bedroom, 2,315-square-foot penthouse (with a 2,000-square-foot deck) to market this weekend, listing at $2,450,900 plus GST.

Avenue West End is a two-tower project by Grosvenor Americas and Cressey Development Group. The podium and first tower are complete, and about 80 per cent of the 195 units have been sold. The second tower will come to market at a later date.

“We wanted to take advantage of the roof and make sure that it could form part of a very exclusive and incredible penthouse unit,” says Robert Duteau, vice-president of development for Grosvenor Americas. “It could have just been gravel and tarpaper, but we had an opportunity to do a twostorey penthouse and take advantage of the deck here. It makes for a one-of-a-kind condominium.”

A main goal for the penthouse inside and out was to make it a gracious and spacious home for entertaining.

On the upper floor, a second bedroom and ensuite is down a hall from the lounge and deck entrance, providing privacy for a house guest or for another family member. The entertaining spaces both in the great room and dining area and on the patio are expansive, stunning and unique.

Calgary interior designer Amanda Hamilton worked with the developer to curate a special feel. They began by thinking about who will likely be living here.

“We came up with this concept of an epicurean — really global, has travelled a ton, likes to cook, really has an appreciation of the finer things in life, but is still really humble and simple, and really appreciates quality and artisan goods,” says Hamilton. The furniture package and accessories were developed around this persona.

“There is a subtle tribal accent that runs through. Lots of hand carvings, lots of books, this person is well-read,” she says.

The penthouse comes with three titled parking stalls and two private storage units. The building has concierge service seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 24-hour security, along with an exercise facility and a dog wash. The owners lounge is coming in the next tower.

There is a wide selection in style and size in the remaining units at Avenue West End, including one bedroom, two bedroom and townhomes. Townhomes are about 1,300 square feet on two levels, starting from $618,900 plus GST. One bedrooms start at 631 square feet and $324,900 plus GST, while the two bedrooms begin at 899 square feet and $511,900 plus GST. Avenue West End is located at 1025 5th Ave. S.W.
