A bear warning is in effect for the Kananaskis Golf Course, as multiple black and grizzly bears are in the area.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Alberta Parks said the warning will remain in effect until further notice.

The agency noted that bears can be encountered anywhere in the region, and that those venturing into the area should make plenty of noise, be aware of their surroundings and carry bear spray while knowing how to use it.

A cougar warning has been in effect since Sept. 11 after two people had an encounter with a big cat.

The warning affects an area east of Highway 40 between the Evan Thomas day-use area and Wedge Pond day-use area. It includes the Evan Thomas trail, the Wedge Connector trail and a portion of the Bill Milne trail.

Bear and cougar sightings should be reported to 403-591-7755.
