Vehicle thefts cause confusion

-

The stats of stolen vehicles astounds me. The too-high volume shocks me. Possibly I’m missing a key consideration.

Why do victims leave their vehicle engine running with the doors unlocked while they are “briefly” dashing into a store to make a purchase, possibly a coffee for the road?

Lately there have been vehicle thefts with infants in the back seat. That shocks me even more. Is it not possible, even for a brief stop, to turn off the engine and lock the doors?

I’m totally confused. And, on another note, the cost to our police force in dealing with the aftermath of these perpetual incidents should be a serious consideration.

Why are the auto-theft “victims” not held more to account?
