HOUSE DECLARES TREATMENT OF ROHINGYA ‘GENOCIDE’

The House of Commons unanimousl­y adopted a motion Thursday to recognize the crimes against the Rohingya as a genocide. The motion, put forward by Liberal MP Andrew Leslie, also endorsed the findings of a United Nations factfindin­g mission outlining how crimes against humanity have been committed by the Myanmar military against the Rohingya and other minorities. In Washington for NAFTA talks, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland praised MPs for passing the motion to recognize “this atrocity.”
