Mid-flight marriage proposal proves costly
A Chinese flight attendant has been sacked after her boyfriend proposed marriage during a flight. The unnamed crew member was fired by China Eastern Airlines for the “irresponsible act,” which jeopardized passenger safety on board the flight, Asia One reported. The highflying gesture came to light in May after video surfaced online of an unnamed man dropping to one knee and popping the question to his stewardess girlfriend 30 minutes after the flight took off, the news portal said. The airline said the employee was fired for causing a disturbance, as well as endangering safety of the crew and passengers during the flight from Xi’an to Yinchuan in central China. However, social media users were divided, with some saying the firing was a “heartless” over-reaction to a harmless romantic gesture, while others said it was unseemly to mix personal with professional life. According to media reports, the woman received a letter this month informing her of the dismissal.
