New houses in an established community the appeal of latest model home show parade

- JOSH SKAPIN

People in the market for a new single-family home in northwest Calgary can now explore four new examples of what’s available in Evanston, along with its innovative new park.

The 267-hectare community master-planned by Qualico Communities, bordered by 144th Avenue and Symons Valley Parkway, raises the curtain on a park and four-model show home parade today at noon. An event to celebrate the launch will include familyfriendly activities, such as a hayride throughout the community.

This parade, located on Evansfield Crescent N.W., features front-drive single-family homes by NuVista Homes, Trico Homes, Sterling Homes, and Broadview Homes.

Trico’s is the Winston, which is 2,555 square feet and has four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, Sterling ’s is the 2,380-square-foot, four-bedroom Montego 2, NuVista’s is the 2,238-square-foot Rosewood, which has four bedrooms, and Broadview’s is the Cascade III, which has three bedrooms and measures 2,219 square feet.

Evanston also has two other parades showcasing laned and duplex models that launched in May.

The Symons Valley community, launched in 1999, at build out, will have 3,348 single-family homes and 1,419 multi-family units.

Its selection currently includes move-up single-family homes from the $500,000s, and both laned single-family and duplex homes from the $360,000s. Along with the aforementioned builders, the group also includes Pacesetter by Sterling Homes and Jayman Built.

Architectural styles include a charming selection of Craftsman, Prairie and Colonial.

Evanston also has townhome developments by StreetSide Developments and Partners Development Group.

“Evanston is an extremely convenient location, with all the amenities in place, and you can have a northwest address,” says Laura Field, marketing co-ordinator for Qualico. “There is transit, doctors, a gym — it truly has everything people would want in a community, and they can build new. It’s the best of both worlds.”

The curtain raises on Evanston’s latest park — with a playground, resting areas, and pathways — today.

“The playground will include a bouldering wall and climbing boulders that will mimic the colours of the Rockies, as it’s a hillside park flanking the dry pond,” says Joanne Voll, development manager at Qualico. “Since the grade of the park is on the side of the hill, a custom hill net climber will be built into the side of the slope.

Other natural elements of the park, she adds, include three large climbing boulders, rounded wood seating benches and many trees and shrubs.

“You will find musical equipment including ring-a-bell and bongo panels and chimes as well as a swing set and disc swing,” Voll says. “Also included is a safety poured-in-place rubberized fall surfacing which is handicap accessible.”

“This park was designed to bring an additional element to this dry pond for the community to enjoy,” she adds. “We believe this space will be a community asset for years to come.”

The community boasts 16 parks, in total, and seven playgrounds with picnic areas.

For schools, Evanston includes a public elementary, and a K-9 through the Calgary Catholic School Division. A K-6 school has been announced to be open by 2022, says the developer.

“Evanston has truly grown with the city,” says Field. “Now it’s an established community people can build a brand new home in. You don’t need to wait for a school to be built, or a grocery store to come to the community. It’s all there in Evanston. It’s a community people recognize as a great place to raise a family, because there are parks ready to play in, and children don’t need to get bused to school — they can walk.

“The active community association in Evanston helps to bring residents closer together, all these things amount to a truly great neighbourhood,” she adds.

For quick access to shops and service, the community includes an existing commercial complex called Evanston Towne Centre, which is anchored by a Sobeys grocery store.
