Brookfield Residential becomes naming sponsor for new YMCA-operated recreation centre in Seton
The name of a large-scale recreation centre in southeast Calgary ’s mixed-use Seton community has been unveiled.
This facility, measuring about 330,000 square feet, will be called Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton. The naming comes following a $3.5 million investment by Brookfield, the developer behind Seton, in YMCA Calgary, says a news release.
Set to open in 2019, the centre’s proposed amenities include, among other features, a water park, 10-lane competition pool, leisure pool, two multi-purpose ice rinks, three gymnasiums, fitness centre and full-service library.
Brookfield Residential, celebrating its 60th year of operations, also announced it will subsidize YMCA memberships for 60 children for one year. The aim is to help these children reach the recommended 60 minutes of exercise each day, says the release.

Shannon Doram, president and CEO of YMCA Calgary, calls Brookfield’s contribution a “transformational gift.”
