Bank of Canada gov­er­nor Stephen Poloz gives a speech Thurs­day evening. The cen­tral bank cited on­go­ing trade ten­sions in its Sept. 5 move to main­tain its key in­ter­est rate tar­get at 1.5 per cent, but Poloz is ex­pected to raise the rate on Oct. 24.

Black­Berry Inc. holds its sec­ond-quar­ter

con­fer­ence call on Fri­day. The com­pany is the sub­ject of a pa­tent in­fringe­ment com­plaint from Face­book.

The In­ter­na­tional Pipe­line Con­fer­ence kicks

off in Cal­gary on Mon­day. The con­fer­ence gets un­der­way days af­ter the feds gave the Na­tional En­ergy Board less than six months to redo its en­vi­ron­men­tal re­view of the Trans Moun­tain ex­pan­sion.

Statis­tics Canada re­ports its lat­est read­ing on the strength of the econ­omy on Fri­day when it re­leases GDP re­sults for July.
