What to watch for in Canadian business this week:

Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz gives a speech Thursday evening. The central bank cited ongoing trade tensions in its Sept. 5 move to maintain its key interest rate target at 1.5 per cent, but Poloz is expected to raise the rate on Oct. 24.

BlackBerry Inc. holds its second-quarter

conference call on Friday. The company is the subject of a patent infringeme­nt complaint from Facebook.

The Internatio­nal Pipeline Conference kicks

off in Calgary on Monday. The conference gets underway days after the feds gave the National Energy Board less than six months to redo its environmen­tal review of the Trans Mountain expansion.

Statistics Canada reports its latest reading on the strength of the economy on Friday when it releases GDP results for July.

The Cannabis Hemp Conference and Expo kicks off in Vancouver on Friday. Amid the countdown to pot legalizati­on on Oct. 17, the industry is seeing a renewed surge in pot-related stocks.
