PM LOSES VOTE OF CONFIDENCE AMID SURGE ON RIGHT

-

Sweden’s prime minister lost a no-confidence vote Tuesday, the latest fallout from elections that delivered a hung parliament amid a surge in support for the hard-right nationalist party.

Stefan Lofven, who leads the Social Democrats, will continue in a caretaker role until a new government can be formed that has command of the Riksdag, the Swedish parliament. Lofven lost the motion after Sweden’s centre-right parties joined forces with the hardright Sweden Democrats party to vote against him. Meanwhile, Ulf Kristersson, the right-wing bloc leader, insists he has enough support to take over via coalition.
