Aspecial weather statement is in effect for Calgary, with heavy snowfall likely for parts of western Alberta this week.
Environment Canada says a low-pressure system will form over B.C. on Monday, bringing snow to western Alberta from Monday night to Wednesday.
The heaviest snow will fall from Nordegg to Kananaskis to Pincher Creek, according to current indications. Areas east of this may see more than 10 cm of snowfall, but meteorologists had a low level of confidence in that happening as of Sunday evening. Portions of the mountain parks maysee more than 20 cm of snow.
It’s likely that highways near and west of Calgary, including the Trans-Canada, will experience poor driving conditions on Monday night and Tuesday, regardless of how much snow falls, says Environment Canada.
