NHL REVIEWING WILSON HIT

-

Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson is facing player-safety scrutiny again after an ejection for an illegal hit to the head.

Wilson was assessed a 10-minute match penalty for a blindside check to the head of St. Louis Blues centre Oskar Sundqvist Sunday. Sundqvist did not return, andthere weren’t any updates about his condition after the game, which Washington won5-2.

Wilson was assessed a match penalty after his shoulder appeared to collide with Sundqvist’s head at centre ice. Dating back to last pre-season, Wilson has been suspended three times in the past year, and the NHL’s department of player safety is already reviewing Sunday’s hit.

Wilson was suspended twice last preseason for two hits against the Blues. He was then later suspended three playoff games for a hit on Zach Aston-Reese that broke the Penguins forward’s jaw.
