Possible impairment probed in Stoney Trail crash

- SAMMY HUDES

Alcohol and drugs might have led to a fatal crash on Stoney Trail on Sunday, Calgary police say.

The collision happened at about 11 a.m., when emergency crews responded to the incident on Stoney Trail, about 500 metres south of the exit to 114 Avenue S.E.

Police believe a blue Ford F-150 was northbound when it left the road and struck a large concrete base of an overhead road sign.

The lone occupant of the truck, a 25-year-old driver, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Excessive speed doesn’t appear to be a factor, however police are investigating whether alcohol and drugs may have led to the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or possibly saw the truck northbound on Stoney Trail around the time of the accident is asked to contact the Traffic Section office at 403-428-4000.
