Remember who’ll pick up Games tab
Re: Former B.C. premier pushes for Calgary’s Olympic bid, Oct. 2
Why we would be listening to the former B.C. premier in backing a yes vote for the bid? He is not a local taxpayer who has to pick up the bill for any cost overruns which are bound to occur as a result of lowball projections from the bid committee.
The Vancouver Games ran to more than $9 billion and required an additional $165 million from the province to cover costs for security. Alberta is facing close to a $9-billion deficit this year.
It seems many of the cheerleaders for the bid are not Calgary taxpayers who will be picking up the tab.
