If Georges St-Pierre is forced to make a prediction of who will win the main event at UFC 229, he knows who he’s taking.

In Calgary on Thursday for a promotional appearance for Reddhart Workwear, St-Pierre was asked for his thoughts on Saturday night’s main event between UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and returning superstar Conor McGregor.

“It’s an interesting fight, it could go either way,” St-Pierre said. “Conor could catch him, he’s very precise, but Khabib can beat him as well.

“Khabib is undefeated, he’s a very constant fighter, so it’s going to be a good fight.”

St-Pierre has spoken in the past about fighting both McGregor and Nurmagomedov and it has been rumoured that the French Canadian is interested in dropping weight in order to fight at 155 pounds and take on the winner of Saturday night’s main event.

For most of his career, St-Pierre fought at 170 lb., when he twice claimed the UFC’s welterweight crown.

Last year, he went up a weight class to 185 lb. and defeated Michael Bisping at Madison Square Garden for the middleweight championship, although he voluntarily relinquished the belt soon after.

A St-Pierre-McGregor fight would likely break UFC sales records, but when he was forced to choose a winner of the UFC 229 main event, St-Pierre didn’t pick the Irishman.

“If I have no choice, Conor makes more noise, talks louder, but I think Khabib will do it,” StPierre said.
