Soccer Dinos on roll with Pronghorns in town

-

Riding a seven-game win streak, the University of Calgary Dinos women’s soccer team prepares to take on the Lethbridge Pronghorns in a home-and-home first-place showdown this weekend.

After playing Thursday at the Community Sports Stadium at the University of Lethbridge, the Dinos (7-1) host the Pronghorns (1-6-1) under the lights Friday at McMahon Stadium (4:30 p.m.)

The Dinos won both their games last weekend at home, defeating a pair of Prairie foes. Calgary scored seven goals while conceding none in the two games, including a 4-0 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies and a 3-0 decision against the Regina Cougars. Montana Leonard and Kelsie MacDonald each tallied twice in the two games.

Lauren Houghton has remained a consistent presence in net for the Dinos and had one of her lighter workloads of the season last weekend, facing five shots in two games. She has six shutouts on the season. Houghton has stopped 34 of 37 shots in 2018.

First-year midfielder Claire Rockliff scored her first goal for the Dinos in the win over the Huskies. The former Blizzard United player is the second rookie to score a goal this season for Calgary, joining forward Sofia Mondaca, who found the back of the net Sept. 22 versus the Winnipeg Wesmen.

The Dinos roster features six first-year players.

Lindsay Amatto leads all Pronghorn players with two goals, while Raeleen Vanden Dungen has one goal and one assist.

Lethbridge sits in the Prairie Division cellar, tied with the Wesmen and Huskies with four points.

The Pronghorns have struggled to score, having collected a conference-low four goals this season.

The Pronghorns picked up their first win of the season in their last outing, beating the Huskies 2-1.
