BEIJING SAYS EX-INTERPOL HEAD DETAINED IN CORRUPTION PROBE
China said Monday it had placed the head of Interpol under investigation for taking bribes, days after his wife reported him missing.
Meng Hongwei, 64, vanished in late September after travelling from Interpol headquarters in France to China.
His wife said he had sent her a text message with a knife emoji that day.
Interpol, the global policing agency, said on Sunday that Meng had resigned amid suggestions he may have been caught up in President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption crackdown.
