Police are investigating a shooting in which a flare gun was fired into a home in the northeast.

Officers were called to the 900 block of 16th Street N.E. in the community of Mayland Heights around 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said two men approached a duplex on the block and it’s believed one of the men pulled out a flare gun and fired a round through a window.

Investigators are working to determine if the home was targeted.

A neighbour who lives across the street didn’t hear the incident but says about half a dozen police vehicles descended on the community around 7:30 a.m.

“I live across the street, and ‘people across the street’ know everything. But from the sounds of it, nobody knows (what happened),” said the woman, who declined to be named.

The woman said she was speaking with neighbours who thought emergency services may have been called for her.

“I said, ‘no, no, no, look outside and you’ll see the police,’” she said.

Police say bylaw services took possession of a dog at the residence while officers on scene investigated the incident.

Police have not released a description of the suspects.
