Taxpayers on hook for Olympics
It seems there are a lot of naive people out there. They are made to believe, that if our city puts up ‘X’ dollars for the Olympics, we will benefit from the contributions the provincial and federal governments will make. I hate to disillusion those people because, ultimately, there are only two real contributors to this cause: the people who pay property taxes and the people who pay income taxes. And these people don’t add up to the 35 million Canadians that are used to present the distorted average costs per person quoted by media and politicians.
Right now, every level of government is deeply in debt and whatever monies they are promising for the Olympics will have to be raised from future taxes first. This means we, the taxpayers, will be on the hook again. And that, folks, is how democracy works.
