Beef dinners are warm, comforting and hearty

Stroganoff comes with a secret ingredient you’ll love

As the weather turns cooler, we can’t help but crave dishes that are warm, hearty and comforting. Here are two of our favourite recipes, featuring beef.

We mean it when we say that this recipe is our best beef stroganoff. Our secret? We add dill pickles, which add a hit of saltiness and tang — don’t knock it until you try it. Aside from that, we don’t stray too far from the traditional recipe: thin slices of tender sirloin steak and wide egg noodles are coated in a rich and creamy mushroom sauce with tomato paste, paprika and sour cream.

Our beef bourguignon is another crowd-pleasing classic. This popular French beef stew may take a few extra steps, but it’s well worth the effort.

It starts with thick slices of bacon for some smoky flavour. Next, cubed beef chuck steak is browned in the bacon fat, then stewed with carrots, onions and mushrooms in a thick red wine sauce.

Traditionally, this recipe is served with boiled potatoes or noodles, and it’s also delicious with rice or thick, crusty bread.
