Calgary police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting on Friday night in Signal Hill as 22-year-old Mohsen Al Nemesh.

Police were called to the 100 block of Signal Hill Circle S.W. shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday for reports of shots fired.

Al Nemesh was found dead when police arrived. An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has since concluded.

A second victim, a 20-year-old man, was taken to hospital in lifethreatening condition. His condition has since been updated to stable.

Dozens of police officers flooded the southwest neighbourhood shortly after shots were reported on Friday night.

Paul Lee, who lives in a home near the scene, heard about a small gathering at a house in the 100 block of Signal Hill Circle.

“This is kind of out of the blue,” Lee said, who described the family that lives in the house as a nice family.

“Once in a while teenagers have a party, but it never gets out of hand. (This time) things got out of hand.”

Bullet holes could be seen in the front window of the house Saturday morning as members of the Calgary police crime scene unit and homicide unit combed the block, looking for evidence and talking to neighbours.

Investigators are asking the public to assist with information about the events that led up to the shooting incident, in particular the prior whereabouts and activities of the men who were shot.
