The picturesque view of a rural area south of the city was broken by police lights on Wednesday as officers searched a property connected to a Calgary man’s disappearance last year.

Calgary police are searching a property near Aldersyde in an attempt to recover evidence linked to the disappearance of Adam Stewart Young.

Police say the 35-year-old man is believed to be the victim of a homicide.

The property is located about 55 kilometres south of Calgary at 338th Avenue and 112th Street S.E., east of Hwy. 2.

Young was last seen leaving his home, a condo building in the 200 block of 11th Avenue S.E., at about 10 p.m. on Nov. 20. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Around a dozen officers from Calgary along with members of the RCMP could be seen searching the property on Wednesday.

Officers performed a grid search of the property, operating out of a mobile command vehicle and a tent set up as a headquarters.

Earlier this month, police said they hadn’t received any tips as to his whereabouts since appealing to the public last year.

“Since Nov. 20, we have exhausted all footprints of life for Adam and believe that he has met with foul play,” Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary police homicide unit said on Oct. 4.

Schiavetta said Young’s phone and bank account have been inactive since last November, according to records accessed by police.

After interviewing family members, friends and associates of Young, as well as reviewing substantial CCTV footage gathered from the area, police said there is “a strong probability” of foul play.

Greg Leduc lives near the property and said he saw numerous police vehicles staged in the area on Tuesday morning.

Police called the search on Wednesday “extensive,” and said it required “a variety of skilled resources and equipment.”

Police expect to be on the property “for a lengthy duration.”
