Police officer who shot and killed driver cleared
EDMONTON Alberta’s police watchdog has cleared an Edmonton officer who shot and killed a man during a traffic stop.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says the officer who shot the 55-year old man on March 9, 2017 faced a “real risk of death.”
Officials say the officer pulled over a suspected impaired driver and they both got out of their vehicles.
The investigation confirmed the man had a hunting knife and there was a struggle.
The officer, who was on the ground, shot the man four times.
He tried to perform CPR, but the man was declared dead at the scene.
