Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and the Northwest Territories already have carbon pricing systems in place, or plan to implement carbon prices that Ottawa says will meet the federal standard. However, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley has said that province’s carbon levy will not increase as planned until the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion is built, and opposition leader Jason Kenney has vowed to scrap the carbon tax if he is elected next year.
