SOME FANS JUST DON’T GET IT
Toronto Maple Leafs centre Auston Matthews didn’t have to see the video of an adult fan snatching away the puck that Washington goalie Braden Holtby flipped into the Vancouver crowd for a kid. “Yeah it has (happened to me),” Matthews said. “I’ve seen that in baseball, too. The older adult steals the ball from the kid. I don’t know why that happens. You’re an adult, right? You know the feeling of what it’s like to be a kid and get a puck or a baseball.” In what became a popular highlight, Holtby death-stared the guy in the Capitals jersey who intercepted the puck and waved it around to show his girlfriend, right beside the disappointed youngsters. Matthews and teammate Mitch Marner have their own post-warm-up ritual of throwing a souvenir to young fans before exiting. “I just end up getting another puck and making sure the kid gets it,” Matthews said.
