Star Trek gets animated again

Star Trek is about to get animated for a new TV comedy series. Star Trek: Lower Decks will take fans of the long-running sci-fi series on a tour of a lesserknown spaceship in the show’s Starfleet collection and introduce viewers to new characters. Rick and Morty’s head writer and executive producer Mike McMahan is the brains behind the show, and co-creator Alex Kurtzman told Deadline he knew he had the right guy for the job when he heard the animator’s pitch. “He’s brilliantly funny and knows every inch of every Trek episode, and that’s his secret sauce: He writes with the pure, joyful heart of a true fan,” he said. The show will stream on the U.S. service CBS All Access. There’s been no word yet on whether it will be available in Canada.
