Proponents not ready to give up, plan rally outside city hall
Calgary’s 2026 Olympic dreams may be hanging on by a thread, but proponents of a bid aren’t quite ready to quit.
As councillors meet Wednesday morning, when they’ll vote on whether to terminate the bid, Olympic enthusiasts will rally outside city hall at 9 a.m., urging their elected officials not to throw in the towel.
“If they decide to cancel work on the bid, cancel their participation in this negotiation process, … it comes at the consequence of looking in the faces of those most affected,” said Jason Ribeiro, an organizer with the Yes Calgary 2026 group.
