Big plans for The Meg sequel

-

A sequel for the Jason Statham shark thriller The Meg is in the early stages of development. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the film was released in August and has grossed more than US$527 million worldwide. In spite of mixed reviews, executive producer Catherine Xujun Ying has indicated a fullblown franchise could be in the works. “That is definitely the plan,” Variety reported her as saying. “It’s still in the very early stages, but we’re working on it.” The film was loosely based on the 1997 book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten. The Meg producer Belle Avery has picked up the film rights to all of the other books in the novel series.
