Forget Olympics, build event centre

-

Here’s an idea I’ve not heard from anywhere. Why not swap the hosting of the Olympics for a first-class sports and event centre like Edmonton has. Both require the city borrowing the money anyway and maybe paying it back later through our taxes. We hear the city is in negotiations again with the Flames organization anyway.

The Olympics will cost every Calgary household about $2,000 to $4,000 in taxes. Why not borrow far less and build a world-class events centre for concerts and hockey that we will all be proud of. That will be the legacy. We can’t do both. Craig Drebit, Calgary
